TEDxDayton Brings the Spirit of TED Talks to Local Audiences

The inaugural TEDxDayton event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Victoria Theatre, 138 N. Main St. in downtown Dayton.

“Organizing this inaugural event has truly been a team effort,” said Sean Creighton, TEDxDayton co-chair. “Our planning committee has been a cross section of this community and has been working tirelessly all year to make TEDxDayton a reality.”

More than 30 engaging speakers and performers will take the stage during this unique experience that will unleash new ideas that attendees can apply to their work and home lives. The theme for TEDxDayton 2013 is “Infuse and Inspire.” The event will help expand the cultural landscape of Dayton with new stories, insights and discussion.

“Our goal for TEDxDayton is to bring together this region’s innovators, early adopters, and thought leaders for a shared experience that will inspire us all to take action,” said Kristy Rochon, TEDxDayton co-chair.

TEDxDayton will have a student ticket, basic ticket and a sponsor ticket; proceeds will cover the costs of the event. Those interested in attending must fill out a brief application. The application and ticket prices will be available in September on the TED Dayton website. Survey answers will be incorporated into the event to make it an even more localized experience.

More information about the application process will be available soon, and details about speakers will be released in October, but this will not be a lineup of the usual suspects, and these will not be stories many in Dayton have heard before. Some questions attendees may find answers to include: “how can engineering not require math,” “how do our virtual connections change every human behavior from courting to adopting,” and “how do we turn technologists into philanthropists?”  Visit the TEDxDayton website or follow TEDxDayton on Facebook or Twitter for updates and more information.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The annual TED Prize grants $1 million to an exceptional individual with a wish to change the world. The TED Fellows program helps world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. TED-Ed creates short video lessons by pairing master teachers with animators, for use in classroom instruction or independent learning.
